Good Food Habits You Need to Follow in Monsoon: Give a Healthy Start to this Season

Monsoon in India almost arrives and the season is always much awaited as they provide a big relief from the scorching heat of summers. As far as food and health is concerned, monsoon has its own drawback as market street food might be harmful to health. The wet climate leads to increase in the germs which cause diseases like infection, typhoid, dengue, conjunctivitis, and much other. Especially when it comes to kids, they usually get sick during this season which is a major concern for parents. Thus, during this season, it is very important to keep our immunity level strong by observing certain good food habits. Those having low immunity level might result in a host of diseases. Below mentioned are some good food habits to follow this monsoon. 
01: Drink hot/warm water – The best way to kill harmful bacteria and germs present in water is to drink boiled water. It is very important to remain hydrated during monsoon seasons as the humid climate leads to losing much water from the body through sweat. 
02: Food having high salt must be avoided – Low or medium salt content in food should be consumed as foods having high salt leads to high blood pressure and water retention. 
03: Say no to fried food! This type of wet and humid weather reduces the body’s digestion capacity and thus it is generally recommended to avoid fried foods as it leads to indigestion and unrest in the stomach. Steamed, boiled, or grilled foods are best suitable to consume in this weather. Raw food must be avoided especially the fruits and vegetable chats and juices sold by roadside vendors as there is a high risk of water contamination that leads to water-borne diseases. 
04: Seasonal fruit is essential – Seasonal fruits are rich in vitamins and minerals and help to restore energy. Pomegranate, peaches, pears, mangoes, and other seasonal fruits are highly recommended. 
05: Watery fruits are must – Watermelons and muskmelons are good sources of getting hydrated in monsoons. One must avoid these fruits sold by roadside vendors as they may lead to stomach infection or water-borne diseases. 
06: Foods rich in antioxidants are good for health – Foods like bitter gourd, seasonal berries, neem, and pumpkin should be consumed to remain healthy and also prevent infections. Green leafy and root veggies should be properly washed before consumed. 
 07: Spicy and sour food must be avoided – Spicy food should be avoided as they lead to an increase in body temperature and further might lead to skin allergies and irritations in the form of rashes, boils, and pimples. 
How to keep your kids healthy this monsoon?
Being a parent it becomes very difficult to keep your kids healthy and fit especially in monsoon season. Rainy season increases the dampness in the environment which spread germs causing infection in the body. Hence proper care is needed to be taken along with an appropriate diet, by which we can safeguard our kids from infections. Here are some good habits for kids to follow this monsoon – 
  • Eat good and safe food – You can include tulsi leaves, ginger, mint, seasonal fruits, dry fruits, turmeric in their daily diet. Avoid street food especially raw veggies, fruits, fermented and fried foods.  
  • Let them play more – It is very essential for kids to stay active and enjoy outdoor games. Exercise in any form can boost up the immunity level. 
  • Wash your hand frequently – Proper hand washing is one of the easiest ways to stop spreading infection by any form. It is more important for kids as they are more vulnerable to infections from unwashed hands. 
  • Avoid close contact with sick people – Children must stay away from those who are sick as it can spread germs and cause infections.
